I applaud the State of Washington’s efforts to confront the growing epidemic of prescription drug overdose, particularly as it relates to methadone. Methadone can be a dangerous drug when used or prescribed incorrectly. Its risks include tolerance, addiction, and even death. I encourage all physicians to review their prescribing practices for opioid medications and to better educate themselves and their patients on proper drug use, storage, and disposal.
