Charles Garfield, PhD, is a psychologist, professor, lecturer, and the author of twelve books including the widely acclaimed LIFE’S LAST GIFT: GIVING AND RECEIVING PEACE WHEN A LOVED ONE IS DYING. He has been recognized internationally as the founder and inspiration for Shanti Project, a widely recognized AIDS and cancer organization and the Shanti National Training Institute that takes the Shanti model of peer support to organizations worldwide.
A Clinical Professor of Psychology at the University of California School of Medicine at San Francisco for four decades, Dr. Garfield is currently a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and a Research Scholar at the Starr King School for the Ministry at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley. His many honorary speeches include: a Clinton White House Conference; the U.S. Olympic Committee; and the leadership of Oklahoma City following the bombing of that city’s federal building.
