Recent studies reported by the Wall Street Journal are documenting substantial health benefits for practitioners of Chi Kung(Qigong). These ancient and gentle exercises have been practiced for centuries in China. Now their popularity in the West is increasing as more and more qualified teachers and practitioners are beginning to appreciate the widespread benefits of Chi Kung. The benefits reported in the Wall Street Journal included improvement in blood pressure, balance, depression, overall relaxation, focus and stress reduction.
In my book Chi Kung in Recovery, which will be released December 3, 2013, I describe in detail the procedures and benefits of practicing a traditional Chinese method of wellness designed to restore one’s health, vitality and mental well-being. It is my belief that these exercises are of particular value to persons recovering from substance abuse or chronic pain. These two demographics include people who have most likely ignored physical exercise for long periods of time. Chi Kung is easily accessible to all ages and conditions. And it can easily be started at home with a book (such as my own), and requires no equipment or physical aptitude. If you can breathe, you can do Chi Kung.
